OVERVIEW OF THE DEPARTMENT:
The Department of Physiology started with the establishment of the College of Medicine in the year 1980 [1400H]. Since then, the department has been teaching physiology to the MBBS program medical students and to students of Dentistry, Pharmacy, college of Applied Sciences and Nursing Colleges.
VISION:
To become a center of excellence in spreading the concepts of Physiology through teaching and scientific research.
MISSION:
To propagate the knowledge about human Physiology and conduct scientific research in relevant areas in accordance with the general mission of College of Medicine and King Khalid University.
GOALS:
- Teach students of various health professions the basic principles of physiology with an emphasis on how they can be applied in the intended profession (medicine, pharmacy, dentistry or nursing)
- Provide students with interactive experiences and data collection and interpretation skills through laboratory experiments and demonstrations
- Support faculty research activities and promote regional and international collaborations
- Publish research results and participate in scientific conferences.

Research |
Research areas and projects: Most of the research activities in the department are focused on studying oxidative stress induced inflammatory and apoptotic pathways involved in the pathogenesis of diabetes mellitus, chronic stress, Ischemia-reperfusion injuries and cancer. Research interest of faculty members extends to include the field of medical education.
