AN OVERVIEW

The Department of Surgery at the College of Medicine, King Khalid University, was established in the year 1985 [1405H] after four years of the inauguration of the College of Medicine by the Royal Decree No. 3/M/3806 on 19/2/1400H

VISION, MISSION, AND GOALS:

VISION: 

Our vision is to be a leading surgical department in the region, recognized for excellence in surgical education, clinical care, and research. We strive to be at the forefront of innovation, embracing new technologies and techniques that improve patient outcomes and advance the field of surgery. We envision a future where our graduates are leaders in their field, making significant contributions to the improvement of surgical practice and the health of our communities.

MISSION:

Our mission is to provide high-quality surgical education and training to medical students, residents, and fellows, with a focus on patient-centered care, ethical practice, and the latest surgical techniques and technologies. We aim to prepare our trainees for successful careers in surgery by emphasizing teamwork, professionalism, and lifelong learning.

GOALS:

1. To ensure that all medical students receive a solid foundation in surgical principles and techniques, including the opportunity to observe and participate in surgeries under the guidance of experienced faculty.

2. To provide comprehensive, patient-centered surgical care to all patients in our community.

3. To create and maintain an environment of professionalism, respect, and collaboration among all members of the surgical team, including faculty, residents, nurses, and support staff.

4. To promote continuous learning and improvement through regular educational seminars, hands-on workshops, and participation in national and international conferences and research projects.

  1. To foster a culture of innovation and research, encouraging faculty and trainees to contribute to the development of new surgical techniques, technologies, and treatments that can improve patient outcomes, reduce complications, and enhance the overall quality of surgical care.
  2. To promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in all aspects of our mission, recognizing the importance of a diverse workforce in providing culturally sensitive and responsive care to patients from all backgrounds.

Program, Courses

The Department of Surgery teaches 3 main courses to the students of the College of Medicine and participate in teaching of Surgical topics in College of Applied Medical Sciences and College of Dentistry.
