About Department

AN OVERVIEW:

The Department of Internal Medicine at the College of Medicine, King Khalid University, has a rich history spanning over three decades. Established in 1985 [1405H], four years after the inauguration of the College of Medicine by the Royal Decree No. 3/M/3806 on 19/2/1400H, the Department has since then made significant contributions to the field of medicine. With a strong focus on providing quality education and training to its students, the Department has produced several distinguished medical professionals who have made noteworthy contributions to the healthcare industry. Moreover, the Department has also been actively involved in various research projects, with a particular emphasis on advancing medical knowledge and improving patient outcomes.

VISION, MISSION, AND GOALS

VISION: Achieving local, regional, and international excellence in the filed of Internal Medicine through leadership in medical education, medical care, and scientific research.

MISSION: The Department of Internal Medicine is committed to teaching students and graduating distinguished physicians providing continuous medical education, conducting advanced scientific research and providing humanitarian care to patients while ensuring adequate safety.

GOALS:

Achieve efficiency in teaching medical students the topics of Internal Medicine covering both the theoretical and clinical aspects.
Graduating distinguished and highly qualified professionals and providing outstanding medical care in the field of Internal Medicine to patients in Aseer Region.
Increase the number of research projects conducted by the department and its faculty members.
Establish collaborations with other departments and institutions, both nationally and internationally.
Enhance the quality of medical care provided to patients in the Aseer Region through continuous improvement efforts.
Develop and implement new and innovative teaching methods to improve the educational experience for medical students.
Establish a strong reputation for the department and the college in the field of Internal Medicine, both nationally and internationally.

The Department of Internal Medicine offers two major clinical courses in Medicine for the MBBS program of the College of Medicine, along with additional courses like Psychiatry, basic clinical skills, and medical ethics. It also offers two courses for the College of Dentistry.
