About Department

AN OVERVIEW

The Pathology Department is one of the principal departments of the College of Medicine, King Khalid University. It teaches pathological and hematological diseases as well as forensic medicine to the students of the MBBS Program, along with those from shared courses such as BDS and B.Sc. Pharmacology.

The Department offers diagnostic services to patients in the region by conducting histo-pathological examination of tissues, blood analysis for haematological diseases and toxicological investigative diagnosis. The department carries out scientific research aimed at understanding the nature of new and established diseases observed in the region and the Kingdom at large.

Department faculty members actively in various events convened at the University such as students’ activities, workshops, and scientific conferences. The Department assists faculty and staff with career development and helps patients receive diagnostic services.

VISION, MISSION AND GOALS

VISION:

To be a leading and distinguished pathology department in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the region, recognized for excellence in teaching, advanced diagnost and investigative services, and high-impact scientific research that addresses endemic and emerging diseases, contributing to improved healthcare outcomes and national development. 

 MISSION:

To provide high-quality pathology education that enables students to understand disease mechanisms and correlate pathological findings with clinical practice; to strengthen diagnostic services through continuous enhancement of departmental facilities; to support innovative scientific research; and to promote the professional development of academic staff at national and international levels.

GOALS:

  • Provide a distinctive teaching service to students of the MBBS program and other shared programs.

  • Offer a superior quality diagnostic service to patients in the region and Kingdom, through Histo-pathology, Hematology, and Toxicology Units.

  • Conduct scientific research in collaboration with other institutions, universities, and research centers in the Kingdom — leading to the identification of disease etiology and newer methods of investigation influencing patient management.

  • Spread community awareness about the nature of diseases, methods of transmission, measures for prevention, and the importance of early detection of diseases such as malignancies.
