Overview
The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery is a core clinical department in the College of Medicine dedicated to education, specialized training, community service, and scientific research. In addition to teaching students in the MBBS programme, our faculty actively trains postgraduates in the Saudi Board of Orthopaedics residency programme under the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCFHS).
Vision
To achieve local, regional, and international excellence in orthopaedics and traumatology through leadership in medical education, medical care, and scientific research.
Mission
To promote knowledge of orthopaedics and traumatology and conduct scientific research in relevant areas in accordance with the general mission of the College of Medicine and King Khalid University.
- Provide an advanced academic and learning environment that develops the knowledge and skills of students and physicians in orthopaedics and traumatology.
- Provide distinguished education and training in orthopaedics and traumatology.
- Conduct distinguished scientific research to advance orthopaedics and traumatology.
- Contribute to awareness of bone and joint diseases, injuries, fractures, and their prevention.
Goals
- Teach medical students the core knowledge of orthopaedics and traumatology using the best and most up-to-date medical-education methods, with emphasis on applying this knowledge in clinical practice.
- Support faculty research activities.
- Promote regional and international collaboration in orthopaedics and traumatology.
- Publish research results in orthopaedics and participate in local and international scientific conferences.
Department Activities
Teaching
The department teaches orthopaedics and traumatology courses to students in the College of Medicine and other health colleges, as well as trainees in the Saudi Board of Orthopaedics programme.
Training and Community Service
The department trains physicians in the joint Saudi Board of Orthopaedics programme in the southern region of Saudi Arabia to enhance the professional competence of orthopaedic physicians in the region.
The department participates in awareness and service activities to improve public understanding of bone and joint diseases, injuries, fractures, and their prevention.
Research
The department conducts research on various health problems, bone and joint diseases, injuries, and fractures, including their prevalence, treatment, and prevention.
The department collaborates with other departments on joint research projects.
